Can t cats taste sweet? Then why do you always compete with people for food?

The puppy mysteriously hid his hand behind him, blinked at the kitten and said, "Hey, guess how many candies are hidden in my hand? If you guessed it correctly, both of them will be your reward!" After hearing this, the kitten curled a sly smile on the corner of his mouth and responded, "Do you know, there is a little secret in my Tas1r2 gene, which lacks 247 building blocks - those base pairs, so my taste buds lack the magic to feel sweet. To me, candies are just colorful stones without taste, so why should I pursue that tasteless reward?"

The cat's perception organs are much better than humans in all aspects, but they are worse than humans in taste. In fact, they don't feel the sweetness at all. However, we will be surprised to find that some cats actually like to eat sweet foods such as ice cream and cakes. Then why is this?

In fact, as a carnivore, cats have lived with humans for so long, but have not developed the ability to feel the sweetness. The reason they look like foods like ice cream, cakes, etc. is because they smell the cream and dairy through their sense of smell. Obviously, cats don’t eat because the food is sweet, but because dairy products can bring them a lot of energy. However, although cats have poor taste, it does not mean that they have no taste. For example, cats are very sensitive to both bitter and sour tastes, because this is the key to confirming whether the food has been spoiled.

There are also some cats who express a strong love for fruits. However, for cats who don’t know the sweetness of the tongue, what really attracts them with sweet and juicy fruits is the sweetness of the fruit and the rich moisture in the flesh. In addition, they may also need to obtain some vitamins and cellulose from the fruit to satisfy their own metabolism. This aspect is like they sometimes eat some plants, which is incomprehensible, but it is indeed one of the needs of cats.

Finally, although I have said so much, it does not mean that cats cannot eat sweet foods. Don’t be misled! I personally think that cats love to eat sweet foods is not universal. For cats with this hobby, we can regard them as having many interests in diet. If your cat also belongs to this category, it is also a pleasure to share the same preferences with it occasionally.
