For newborn kittens, their umbilical cord will usually be licked and bitten off by female cats, while the remaining umbilical cord will dry, harden and then fall off automatically within a week. Therefore, the owner generally does not need to take care of the kitten's umbilical cord, but the umbilical cord is a channel connected to the placenta. After the kitten is delivered, a broken end of about 2-3cm will be left on the kitten's belly button. The owner needs to pay attention to keeping the kitten's umbilical cord dry and avoid infection.
1. If you find that the kitten's umbilical cord has not fallen off for about a week, it is recommended that you consider sending the kitten to the hospital for examination.
2. If the umbilical cord does not fall within a week, but the umbilical cord is dry and there is no infection, considering that there is a slight difference in the time when the cat's umbilical cord falls, you can also observe it for a while and it will fall on its own later.
3. Be careful not to use hands or undisinfected scissors to cut. The bacteria on human hands and scissors may easily cause infection to the kitten after touching the umbilical cord.
4. If the umbilical cord has not fallen off for a long time, it is recommended to check whether there is secretion at the end of the umbilical cord first. If purulent secretions or liquid seeps out, it is recommended that the owner take them to the cat pet hospital for professional treatment.
If there is no purulent secretions and fluid oozing around the umbilical cord, but it has not fallen off for a long time, you can also take it to a pet hospital and the doctor will cut it off.
