According to the BBC, Manchester United has given up on Brighton midfielder Baleba, because Brighton said the player will not leave the club.

Although Manchester United has no official offer, they have asked about the cost of signing the 21-year-old and whether Brighton will let him go. Sources have been stressing that Brighton has no intention of selling Baleba, and head coach Hulzell said on Friday that he is "very, very, very confident" in the Cameroon international staying with the team.

Manchester United now realizes that it is too expensive to convince Brighton to change his position and temporarily abandons the plan. Sources said that this will not change until the transfer window is closed on September 1.

Manchester United will face Arsenal at home in the first game of the season on Sunday, and will also face powerful opponents such as Chelsea and Manchester City. Currently, Manchester United is evaluating the midfield situation, and Portuguese sports captain Jurmander may be a viable option. United have spent more than £200 million on three new players this summer and have no players sold yet, so they may choose not to bring in new players.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille for £23.2 million two years ago, and his contract is still three years away. He made 34 appearances in the Premier League last season and scored 3 goals, helping Brighton finish eighth.

Helzer said of Brighton's game against Fulham at a press conference on Friday: "I'm very, very, very confident that he will stay. It's just my belief. I haven't seen any changes in him, except for his hairstyle, which is the only change he's been in the past two weeks!"

"Overall, he looks in good shape. He gets along with his teammates and enjoys being a Brighton player. He's very grateful for the progress he's made last season, I haven't seen any big changes, he's one of the starting options for tomorrow's game."
