US technology consultant David Sacks was recently interviewed, pointing out that China's semiconductor design has only been about two years behind the United States, reflecting significant progress in China's artificial intelligence (AI) and chip manufacturing. Sax said China is catching up quickly, although graphics processing unit (GPU) production is still facing restrictions, he estimated that China will start exporting hardware soon.

Sax emphasized that China's rise may put pressure on American companies. If U.S. export restrictions are too strict, it may regret not being able to continue to dominate. Past regulations may cause harm to U.S. technology industries because these regulations are too concerned about the flow of U.S. chips into China.

Sax mentioned that although the United States wants to prevent advanced semiconductors from flowing to China, it does not want to restrict exports from friendly countries. The U.S. goal is to make U.S. technology accumulating the global standard and hope that the global market will account for the largest share.

Ren Zhengfei, founder of China, recently said that GPU technology is only one generation behind the best products in the United States. But many AI jobs do not require top-notch technology, and if China provides products with reasonable prices and inferior performance, some markets may be able to challenge Nvidia and AMD's status.

This technological competition is not only a trade-strength phenomenon, but also a strategic competition to compete for AI and advanced chip leadership. Both the United States and China are investing heavily to ensure the latest technology leadership.
