After the appearance of walnut furniture is painted and polished, it not only has a beautiful appearance, but also has a high-end style, with the flavor of rosewood furniture. Therefore, during the Qing Dynasty, walnut wood was often used in royal palace furniture.

Walnut is a tree species with a long growth cycle. It usually takes fifty or even hundreds of years from planting to ingredient. With the increasing demand for domestic log resources, domestic walnut wood cannot meet the needs of domestic furniture production. In addition, walnut wood is not very tight.

Identification method of walnut

The materials of walnut vary greatly. The heartwood generally ranges from light reddish-brown to brown, slightly purple, the material is pleasing to the eye and elegant, and sometimes with beautiful spots or stripes; the sapwood is light, mostly grayish-white or light brown. Tree roots, gallbladders, etc. often have special patterns, and after being sawed into thin wood, it is a precious decorative material. Walnut has medium hardness to slightly hard and heavy, the fiber structure is thin and uniform, and has strong toughness. It has excellent performance in terms of vibration resistance and wear resistance, and has certain bending resistance and corrosion resistance. However, most sapwood needs to be painted to prevent moth. This will not easily cause adverse reactions such as deformation and cracking.

Walnuts are roughly divided into four categories, namely hemp walnuts, mainly produced in Sichuan and Tibet regions in China; wild walnuts are produced in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Yunnan regions; walnuts are produced in Northeast China; and American black walnuts and walnuts. American black walnuts have dark brown color, slightly purple and slightly heavier color, while American white walnuts are light brown and the material is slightly soft.

Walnut cleaning and maintenance methods

The first step: dust removal

The easiest way for our daily maintenance of walnut furniture is to remove dust. It is best to use a wet rag when removing dust, because wet cotton can reduce friction and avoid scratching the furniture. At the same time, it avoids the adsorption of static electricity on the dust, which is conducive to removing dust on the surface of the furniture, but water droplets should be avoided on the surface of the furniture. It is recommended to use a drier rag to apply it again.

Also note that when we dust walnut furniture, it is best to use clean soft cotton cloth, such as old white T-shirts or baby diapers, etc., and do not use sponges and tableware to wipe the furniture.

Step 2: Glass

1. Apply the polish on a clean white soft cotton cloth, but the polish should not be too much, because a small amount of polish can make the furniture last forever.

2. Wipe the polish onto the furniture along the wood texture and use another clean cotton cloth to erase the excess polish.

3. Avoid excessive friction. Excessive friction will affect the matte coating, which will lead to uneven color of the furniture in severe cases.

Note that although frequent polishing of walnut furniture does not harm the coating, we recommend only twice a year. Excessive polishing will affect the appearance of the coating. Moreover, when applying the polishing agent, you must not choose a polishing agent containing silicone, because having silicone will not only soften the coating, but also clog pores, causing difficulties in repair.

Step 3: Clean

1. Pour a small amount of detergent on a clean soft cotton cloth,

2. Wipe the furniture surface in the direction of the wood grain, and then wipe it again in reverse until all the detergent is wiped off.

3. Implement appropriate lighting procedures.

Note that no matter what kind of detergent you use, it is best to do a small piece of testing in an inconspicuous position before wiping your furniture thoroughly to ensure that the surface coating of your furniture does not soften or even wipe off together, and there are no other adverse reactions. In addition, although furniture-specific cleaners will not damage the surface coating, we still recommend only one to two times a year.
