In an article a few days ago, Big Cats Here introduced you to a cute and beautiful female desert cat. Her name is Desiree and she lives in the Hoag Zoo in Utah, USA. Because she was born on February 29, she only celebrates her birthday once every four years. In fact, Desert Cat Desiree also has a "good husband" - a male desert cat named Cheeks. Because of its maverick, strong aura, cynicism and extraordinary charm, the zoo staff respectfully called it

"Mr. Cheeks"

Today, let's get to know Mr. Cheeks, the desert cat!

Mr. Cheeks, the desert cat, has the majesty of a male cat. His facial expressions and body language convey a signal that he is not to be approached or violated. In the photo, it is squatting on a high place with a posture of looking down on its subjects, arrogant and arrogant. It is a domineering boss among desert cats.

Don’t think that it is petite and that it is just a “cat” about the same size as a house cat. You must know that desert cats themselves have strong attack power. As the only cats that mainly live in the desert, they are agile and have sharp teeth. They like to eat all kinds of rodents and reptiles. They are known as the “snake hunters” in the desert and are the most beautiful “little killers” in the desert.

Mr. Cheeks, the desert cat, often displays a confident and lazy posture. This calmness well explains his inner strength. In the photo, it is holding its little paws, lying on the small bed prepared by the zoo staff, taking a nap with blurred eyes, as if telling humans, "I want to take a nap, and no one should disturb me. Do you understand?" Do you want to respond to it: "Okay, Mr. Cheeks, don't worry, no one will dare to disturb your sweet dream."

Living in the zoo is long and slow. Mr. Cheeks, the desert cat, does not always look unapproachable. When sleeping, he shows a lazy and cute side, which is in sharp contrast to the moments when he describes his majesty. In fact, the personalities of small animals are similar to humans, they are complex and multi-faceted. After all, they are all independent and vivid individuals.

In 2007, Mr. Cheeks, a desert cat, came to Hoag Zoo; in early 2017, he successfully paired with Desiree, a female desert cat who had just arrived at the zoo, and successfully bred healthy desert cat cubs twice, bringing the joy of new life to the city where the zoo is located. Mr. Cheeks, the desert cat in love, showed his tender side. On February 14, 2020, he spent a romantic and heartwarming Valentine's Day with his "wife" Desiree. In the photo, he tried to get close to his significant other in a very gentlemanly manner, and received a gentle look from his "wife" in response.

In the wild, desert cats mainly live in the deserts of North Africa, South Asia, and Southwest Asia. They are good at digging holes. They hide in the holes to enjoy the shade during the day and come out to hunt at night. Their toes have long hairs that provide good insulation.

It is difficult for the desert cat to survive in a captive environment, so it will not become a popular pet of humans. Instead, it will become extinct due to human capture.

Some zoos will raise desert cats for research purposes to better understand them and provide assistance for the protection of wild desert cats.
