Rabies has always been a serious concern for pet owners, so how do you know if your dog is infected with "rabies"? Let’s find out together.
Because the incubation period of rabies varies, it can last several months or even a year in the elderly. Therefore, it is clinically divided into two stages, one is the manic stage and the other is the paralytic stage. Therefore, it can be judged by observing whether the dog has symptoms of the two types.
1. The duration of the manic type is 6-8 days, and it can last up to 10 days in the elderly. The paralytic type develops rapidly, has a short course, a very short excitement period or only mild symptoms, and usually dies within 2-4 days after onset.
2. In the early stage of the manic stage, the dog will be afraid of light, prefer darkness, slow to react, and will not listen to the owner's orders. Later, the dog will be violent and restless, confused, and will show symptoms such as irritating activities and distorted mouth and eyes.
3. During the paralytic period, dogs will salivate a lot, be unable to eat or drink, twitch, gradually become paralyzed in the hindquarters and limbs, walk wobbly or have difficulty moving, and finally die due to paralysis of the respiratory center and systemic failure.
Note: If it is rabies infection, once the disease occurs, the mortality rate is 100%, so prevention is very important, and whether the dog carries rabies virus cannot be detected. It will only be known after the dog becomes ill. Therefore, after the dog is three months old, the dog needs to be vaccinated against rabies virus regularly according to the vaccination procedure. Only in this way can the infection and occurrence rate of rabies virus be well prevented.
