Market news has been released that China has blocked NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000D, requiring Chinese technology companies to stop purchasing and cancel existing orders. According to Korean media reports, the industry believes that this is a symbolic measure that highlights China's "technical ownership".
The British Financial Times quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that the China National Internet Information Office (CAC) has requested word-hopping and large Chinese companies such as Alibaba to terminate RTX Pro 6000D chip testing and orders.
China actively cultivates local AI chip supply chains. Currently, China, Cambrian and Alibaba's T-head are actively developing related technologies. International investment bank Bernstein predicts that the proportion of local products in China's AI chip market will increase from 17% in 2023 to 55% in 2027.
Meritz securities researcher Cui Xuehua (sound translation), believes that the Chinese government is actively promoting local chips through policies, and Chinese companies have integrated the strategy of integrating single chips with insufficient performance, thereby enhancing competition.
Some people in the industry believe that the Chinese government is a symbolic measure, mainly highlighting "technical authority", because the ban only specifies the RTX Pro 6000D and has not been extended to AI chips such as H20, and whether sanctions will be imposed in the future still need to be observed. He said that it is more like a signal at the moment, indicating that China is not completely unnecessary to foreign chips, but that "this grade product can be replaced by our local products", which is a symbolic action to show confidence.
China blocked NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000D, the Korean memory has little impactThis time, the RTX Pro 6000D is not equipped with a high-level HBM, but uses the relatively cheap GDDR7, with suppliers being Samsung and SK Hynix respectively.
According to the other report, the overall price of RTX Pro 6000D is only half the price of H20. Judging from product testing, the performance of RTX Pro 6000D is even lower than that of NVIDIA's latest consumer-grade flagship GPU RTX 5090.
Industry news pointed out that Samsung supplies the most GDDR7 in the RTX Pro 6000D, but the scale is not enough to affect the overall profit. Although China's blockade affects sales, Samsung and SK Hynix are promoting product and market diversification, with little expected impact.
Industry insiders admitted that it is a pity to lose the potential market, but the current situation is still in a controllable range and has not directly impacted the core of the business.
Jin Yangpeng (Photo), a research committee of the Korean Institute of Industry Research, analyzed that NVIDIA usually signs a long-term supply contract for the unit in one year before the product is launched, so memory companies can digest existing production capacity through other product lines.
